The Challenge
Dubbo Hospital faced ongoing pressure from very limited on-site parking, particularly for hospital staff. While the new carpark project was intended to alleviate these constraints, it was critical that the additional capacity was protected from general public use.
Without effective access control, there was a risk that staff parking would continue to be displaced by visitor and non-hospital vehicles, undermining the purpose of the new facility and impacting daily hospital operations.
The Impacts
Without controlled access to the new carpark, the hospital would have continued to experience parking congestion and availability issues, particularly for staff required on-site for clinical and operational roles. Unrestricted public access would have reduced the effectiveness of the new facility, limiting its ability to relieve existing pressure across the hospital campus.
Key impacts included:
- Ongoing difficulty for staff securing parking, particularly during peak shift change periods
- Delays to staff arrival, affecting shift handovers and operational continuity
- Increased congestion within the carpark, as vehicles searched for available spaces
- Frustration and reduced staff experience, particularly in a regional setting where alternatives are limited
- Safety concerns, driven by higher vehicle volumes and unpredictable circulation
These risks highlighted the importance of implementing a clear and reliable access solution to ensure the new parking infrastructure delivered its intended benefit.
The Solution
A straightforward and reliable Enta boom gate solution was implemented to control access to the new carpark and protect staff parking capacity. The system was deployed across six vehicle lanes and integrated directly with the hospital’s staff swipe card system, enabling authorised access while preventing general public use.
By providing seamless boom gate operation linked to existing staff credentials, the solution ensures quick, familiar access for hospital employees without adding administrative complexity or slowing vehicle flow.
The Outcome
The implementation of the Enta boom gate system successfully protected staff parking within the new Dubbo Hospital carpark, ensuring the additional capacity delivered its intended benefit. Authorised staff are now able to access the facility quickly and reliably using existing swipe cards, removing uncertainty and delays at entry points.
By restricting public access, congestion within the carpark has been reduced and parking availability for hospital employees has improved, supporting smoother shift changes and day-to-day operations. The simple, integrated solution provides the hospital with dependable access control while maintaining a seamless experience for staff in a high-demand regional healthcare environment.
