St Andrew’s School, Brighton

St Andrew’s in Brighton is a newly constructed education facility designed to support staff, students, and daily school operations, including dedicated onsite parking for staff members.

About
this Project

As part of the new-build works at St Andrew’s, access control was required to protect the staff car park associated with the new facility. Schools located in residential areas can experience pressure on parking, particularly during drop-off, pick-up, and after-hours community use, making it essential to clearly define and protect staff-only parking areas from the outset. The project focused on implementing a simple, reliable access solution that preserved staff parking availability while integrating cleanly into the school environment.

Project Details

The Challenge

For a new school facility, the primary challenge was preventing unauthorised vehicles from using staff parking areas once the building became operational. Without access control in place, there was a clear risk that parents, visitors, or nearby residents could occupy spaces intended for staff.

The challenge was to proactively manage this risk while maintaining a welcoming and orderly school environment that did not rely on manual enforcement by staff.

The Impacts

If staff parking was not protected, the school faced potential operational and workforce challenges.

The impacts included, or could have included:

  • Staff arriving on site without access to designated parking
  • Increased frustration and stress for staff at the start and end of the school day
  • Reduced staff satisfaction and morale linked to ongoing parking issues
  • Risk of staff seeking alternative employment due to ongoing amenity challenges
  • Increased administrative effort to manage parking complaints and misuse

Addressing these risks early was important in supporting staff wellbeing and retention.

The Solution

A preventative access control solution was delivered using Enta boom gates installed across two vehicle lanes to restrict the car park to authorised staff vehicles only. The system provides dependable, everyday control of access while remaining simple to operate and appropriate for a school setting.

By installing the system as part of the new-build works, access control was fully operational from day one without disrupting school activities.

The Outcome

The installation of Enta boom gates has ensured that staff parking at St Andrew’s remains available and protected, supporting a smoother start and end to the school day. Staff benefit from confidence in parking availability, contributing to improved morale and daily convenience.

School management benefits from reduced need for manual enforcement and a clearer separation between staff and visitor parking. Overall, the solution has supported a more functional, well-managed school environment aligned with the needs of staff and the wider campus.
