The Impacts
Without clear visibility of parking availability, the site risked operational and customer experience issues disproportionate to its size.
Potential impacts included:
- Congestion within the carpark, as drivers entered despite no available bays
- Queuing and spillback, affecting access at the rear of the retail precinct
- Customer frustration, particularly for short-stay shoppers expecting quick access
- Increased local traffic impact, with drivers circulating surrounding streets unnecessarily
- Operational complaints, placing pressure on both centre management and council stakeholders
Avoiding these impacts was essential to ensuring the small carpark functioned efficiently and supported the surrounding retail activity rather than disrupting it.
The Solution
To prevent congestion and maximise the effectiveness of the limited parking supply, a BayPod parking guidance solution was implemented across the site. The system monitors occupancy across 20 parking bays and provides real-time availability information to drivers before they enter the carpark.
Supported by digital signage, the solution clearly indicates whether parking is available, allowing drivers to make informed decisions and avoid entering a full carpark. This approach ensures smooth traffic flow, reduces unnecessary circulation, and allows the small facility to operate efficiently despite its constrained layout.
The Impacts
Without a well-designed parking and guidance system in place, the site risked operational and customer experience issues from day one.
Potential impacts included:
- Congestion at entry and exit points, particularly during peak shopping periods
- Customers spending too long searching for parking, reducing convenience and increasing frustration
- Reduced turnover, limiting parking availability for incoming shoppers
- Underutilised bays, despite high overall demand
- Negative first impressions, impacting repeat visitation to the supermarket and surrounding retail
Avoiding these impacts was critical to ensuring the carpark supported the fast, convenient shopping experience expected at a neighbourhood ALDI store.
The Solution
An integrated parking solution was implemented combining ticketless Codex access control with Cirpark Biology bay guidance to support fast, high-turnover supermarket parking. The Codex system manages vehicle entry and exit across two lanes, providing controlled access without physical tickets to keep traffic flowing smoothly during peak periods.
Within the carpark, the Cirpark system monitors occupancy across 71 individual bays, giving drivers clear visual guidance to available spaces. This combination ensures customers can enter quickly, locate parking efficiently, and exit without delay, while providing site operators with visibility and control over parking performance.
The Outcome
With the BayPod system and signage in place, the Mosman carpark now operates efficiently despite its limited size and constrained layout. Drivers are provided with clear, real-time visibility of parking availability before entering, preventing congestion and unnecessary circulation within the site.
The improved guidance supports quick, short-stay shopping visits and reduces impact on surrounding streets, creating a smoother experience for customers and nearby residents alike. For the client, the solution ensures the small carpark functions reliably as a supporting asset to the Woolworths redevelopment, delivering maximum value from a limited number of parking bays.
